Clinical Studies on the Primary Pancreatic Cancer

Abstract
The Author made a clinical observation on 24 cases of pancreatic cancers who had been admitted to the ward of the Department of Internal Medicine, Pusan National University Hospital from 1955 till 1963
The results obtained were as follows:
1) Among 4962 cases of total in-patients of the Department of Internal Medicine from 1955 to 1963, the incidence of pancreatic cancer was 0.48 % (24 cases) and the peak incidence occurred in the fourth and fifth decades (66.6% of total occurrences) and males predominated in a proportion of 3:1.
2) The mostt predominant complaints of the patients on admission in the order of frequency Were pain (70.8%), abdominal distention (54%), icterus (45%), nausea and vomiting (12.5%), constipation (8.3 %) and diarrhea (4. 1 % ).
3) About lecalizations and characters of pain, dull pain in the upper portion of abdomen radiating to the back was in 58.8% (10 cases) and the paroxysmal diffuse abdominal pain in 33.5% (4 cases) and colicky pain in upper portion of abdomen in 17.6 % (3 cases).
4) On laboratory studies liver functions were more or less damaged in over half of 20 cases tested and serum amylase were elevated in 35.2%.
5) On Roentgenograms C-loop widenings were noted in 52%.
